In this chapter, the authors want to show with more conventional means that Economic Man is scientifically quite vulnerable. The issue here is one of methodology. The authors also proceed to elaborate the need-want dichotomy (the theoretical implications of this dichotomy are far-reaching and best illustrated in terms of the Economic Man concept), showing the relevance of an argument developed in the work of Georgescu-Roegen, whose analysis, the authors believe, has yet to be sufficiently appreciated.
