Abstract
The study of the historical records of the ancient Anasazi culture and its demise helps in understanding the impact of human activity on the physical environment. The shift from hunter-gatherer to agriculture and population growth led to the misuse of land, desertification and subsequent migration of the Anasazis from Mesa Verde. Students need to study records of ecologically based dislocation to understand problems which arise when the balance between use and misuse of land is disturbed. Such a study will enable them to respond to environmental problems and appreciate the quality of life.
