Abstract
Traces the early career of Sir Edgar Vincent (1857-1941), later Viscount D’Abernon, as army officer, diplomat, administrator, and financier in the Middle East. Vincent indefatigably promoted his own monetary interests while faithfully serving the British imperial government, goals that he (but not always his superiors) viewed as both compatible and complementary.
