Postmodernism and Theories of Value: New Grounds for Institutionalist/Marxist Dialogue?

Abstract
Some affinities between recent institutionalist and Marxist writings on value theory are highlighted and it is suggested that these writings are a part of an emerging postmodern conversation about value theory in economics. Institutionalist and Marxist economists are breaking new ground in value theory, partly through their engagement with postmodern themes and literatures. Much of what is new in each school is complementary (and partially indebted) to work, old and new, within the other. Postmodernism provides a philosophical setting in which these discussions can begin and perhaps a way to keep them going.
