Abstract
Reviews the historical image of former Soviet leader Nikita Khrushchev as presented in recent Russian publications. This debate over Khrushchev’s legacy was at its height during 1988-89, also the high point of glasnost and perestroika. Most authors involved in the debate supported reform, and they saw Khrushchev as a role model for socialist reform under Gorbachev. While Khrushchev made mistakes, he showed the possibilities for change.
