Explores the history of the “music boom,” an unprecedented spread of popular music in the 1920’s-30’s, in the Tamil Nadu region of India. The “music boom” was the consequence of the expansion of the south Indian gramophone industry in conjunction with the growth of the mass media, especially radio, and related technological innovations.
