This paper explored the socio-economic implications of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Uganda by focusing on households who received foster children between 1992 and 2000. The authors determined that taking in a foster child reduced per capita consumption, income, and household investment. Inequalities in access to health services for foster children also exist.
