Abstract
The AIDS Pandemic discusses the social, legal, political, and ethical controversies that surround AIDS in the beginning of the twenty-first century. HIV/AIDS is a global epidemic that impacts people’s health, communities, and economic structures. No one country or region goes unaffected by the disease. The economy of all countries is impacted by the global economic and trade relationships in place in today’s world. Weaker economies are often seen in countries and regions that have a heavy burden of HIV/AIDS. Their ability to import and export needed products and services is compromised thereby impacting the economies of other countries. Economic assistance is needed for the poorest countries to prevent and treat HIV. More and cheaper treatment is needed in most countries yet issues of pharmaceutical companies, intellectual property, and international trade act as obstacles.
