AbstractEconomic considerations led the Roman Catholic hierarchy to close its primary schools in Muslim-majority Burkina Faso in 1969, leaving only secondary schools run by individual orders. Seeing the demand filled by nonsectarian schools, the Catholic hierarchy revived its schools in 1990.
