Abstract
One of contemporary anthropology’s main concerns is the way spatial practices shaped identity. To study how spatial practices can shape identity, social identities in the tourist town of Kuranda near Cairns in North Queensland, Australia, are investigated. In particular, the Kuranda Market War of 1986-1987 can be understood as a form of social practice that presents alternative constructions of Kuranda as a place.
