Made in the USA: Latinas/os?, Garment Work and Ethnic Conflict in Los Angeles Sweat Shops
Author(s)Soldatenko, Maria Angelina
AbstractEthnographic study of Latina workers in the garment industry of Los Angeles, CA, shows their work is specific to gender, ethnicity, and immigrant status. These women exist at the bottom of a complex structure that helps maintain Third World working conditions in the US. Stories from these women document contractor abuse, difficult working conditions, and ethnic rivalries that prevent Latinas from creating an effective culture of resistance.
