Abstract
As can be expected, assessments of WSSD’s achievements vary with the assessing party. The UN organizers try to keep an upbeat mood, although off the record they tend to be more critical. Most environmental and social NGOs see WSSD as a failure or, at minimum, as a lost opportunity and are still discussing why it happened and what lessons can be l earned from it. This article is written from the perspective of an NGO participant.
