Making the Global Economy Run: The Role of National States and Private Agents

Abstract
The global economic system requires the implementation of a broad range of standards to ensure its viability. This article examines the role of national states and of private actors, notably financial service firms, in the development and management of such standards. One of the aims is to show that national states are far more involved than their image as victims might suggest.
