Health and Development in South Africa: From principles to practice
Author(s)

Abstract
Desmond Johns argues that the consequences of the apartheid system continue to be felt across South African society, aggravated by the HIV/AIDS epidemic and the mixed blessings that face a small, open economy in today’s globalizing world. He shows how South Africa in its transition to democracy has focused on the provision of education, health and other basic services and has consequently enjoyed some moderate progress.
