As people in modern economies become ever more money-addicted and focus on the accumulation and movements of money, society grows increasingly out of touch with the realities of individual, social and environmental well-being. On paper, ever larger amounts of money move around in modern economies. Meanwhile, our real quality of life declines. This chapter discusses why money is an addictive substance, how money addiction leads to the destruction of real wealth, and how people today are recovering from money addiction.
