Abstract
Regional economic expansion is tied to diversity of spatial-structure transformation. Changes in spatial structure appear to be related in every case to factors such as: the dominant economic activity’s locational qualities, the importance of production-related economies of scale, transportation and communication system efficiency, agglomeration economies and diseconomies, per capita income levels, and household locational preferences. The relative strengths of these co-existing factors define a particular spatial outcome.
