AbstractEconomists conduct experiments to establish new theories, discriminate between existing ones and compare environments and institutions governing the economy. The laboratory serves to test institutional design before implementation on a wide scale. The theoretical models underlying experiments must resemble the real circumstances to provide realistic solutions.
