Jacqueline Pitanguy outlines the political context of the ICPD process on the basis of her work in Brazil and internationally on reproductive rights. She argues that the women’s movement has to continue to lobby hard to decrease the gap between what has been promised and the reality of most women’s lives, particularly in the context of the cuts in state funding towards social and health services.
