After Socialism
Author(s)Marquand, David
AbstractSocialism may be viewed, in the aftermath of communism’s downfall, as more than capitalism’s antithesis. It was an ethic, economic theory, science of society, vehicle of the labor movement and a secular religion combined under the mantle of a political ideology. An analysis of these five dimensions opens up questions on what public involvement paradigm will evolve in light of the 1990s’ shift towards political feminism, environmental consciousness and economic cooperation.
