Abstract
The study of rural-to-urban migrants in Latin America shows that fertility of migrants is intermediate between rural and urban populations and migrants suffer higher rates of mortality and morbidity initially than long-term urban residents. The results show that the rural-to-urban migration model is useful for understanding the biological consequences of urbanization in Latin America.
