Abstract
Americans who care about recentering civic and political life must pursue strategies that look further ahead than the usual Washington time horizon of the day after tomorrow. Supporters of a more equitable society and stronger social supports for families must frankly proclaim their moral vision, linking it to specific proposals. This chapter outlines the goals that should be at the fore of the agendas of national politicians: security and opportunity for all families, honor and support for all parents. Pursuit of family-friendly institutions and public policies can unite millions of Americans in support of shared undertakings to address the real social challenges of our time.
