Abstract
Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), such as those supporting humanitarian aid and environmental concerns, can hold significant power because they can commit all resources to a single issue. However, much of their power is funneled through intergovernmental organizations which are only as powerful as the support and funding they receive from the nation states. NGOs also have difficulty sustaining support for long term changes over projects with immediate, visible results.
