Abstract
An examination of witchcraft is presented, focusing on the relation between state formation and witchcraft in Kenya from 1950-1993. Topics include the terms “utsai” and “witchcraft”, witchcraft as a disciplinary technology, politics of magical harm, colonial law, and the containment of harmful magic.
