Employment Restructuring and Household Survival in ‘Postcommunist Transition’: Rethinking Economic Practices in Eastern Europe

Abstract
An analysis is presented on the response of Eastern European households to labor market restructuring in the postcommunist era. It is shown that many households have created strategies involving economic activities that exist outside of free market relations, which were developed to counteract growing social inequality and uneven employment in the capitalist system.
