Communism should be seen as a major religion which provides a goal and asks for faith from its followers. There is a difference from other religions, however, in that the goal of communism can only be achieved through the actions of people. Workers were initially seen as the source of change, but concessions from the bourgeoisie can weaken the proletariat or lead to greater class consciousness. The proletariat should not give in just because a few concessions are made, but should retain its faith.
