Abstract
The present study is an attempt to describe the radicalization of the religious discourse in El Salvador by way of a case study of the sermons of Oscar A. Romero (Romero 1989). In order to do this, content coding of a sample of Romero’s sermons was undertaken. The goal of the coding was to mark the displacement of orthodox themes by radical alternatives, and to chart the ideological movement toward a critical, prophetic orientation.
