Philistinism, the negation of aestheticism, has been subjected to criticisms although it does not exist as a philosophical concept. The history of other philosophical negations could help in comprehending the phenomenon. Atheism, which negates theism, was subjected to theological criticism even before it existed as an intellectual force. Anarchism, which values society above religion, developed along the same path, as would nihilism, the negation of all imposed morality, was to do so later on. Philistinism is bound to emerge as a philosophy founded on Marxist ideology, liberating art from itself.
