Abstract
The cause of rising income inequality in the United States has been the subject of debate among economists, as well as the general public. Some analysts favor an explanation based on globalization and international trade while others argue about decline of equalizing institutions. This article argues that technological change, in particular, computerization, has raised the demand for better-educated workers and increased the pay gap based on education.
