Women’s International Human Rights Law: The Way Forward

Abstract
A report from a 1992 University of Toronto conference on the pursuit of gender equality through the inclusion of women’s rights in human rights law and enforcement mechanisms is surveyed. Topics discussed include reconciling varied cultural practices with women’s human rights standards, making judges and lawyers more conscious of gender discrimination and women’s issues and pursuing women’s human rights through the development of international treaties and regional enforcement systems to guarantee rights traditionally refused to women despite existing human rights conventions, such as property and reproductive rights.
