The Problem
Author(s)Mauss, Marcel; Durkheim, Emile
AbstractThe classificatory function has long existed as a tool by which experts from multiple fields have used to classify things, events, and facts about the world into kinds and species in order to determine their power relations within a set area. However, this system of classification first appeared as a survival strategy among early human population who included such functions in their etiological tales. While classifying came out of a need of human necessity, the author questions what other causes could have led to early humans arranging their ideas in such a way.
