Abstract
This article explores language marginalization in Malawi. It argues that the policies pursued was biased in favor of a small ruling English-Chichewa elite. Viable indigenous languages which could play a meaningful role in the socioeconomic political life of the country, have been marginalized and excluded both in the economic spheres and national lives of Malawi. In the light of this situation, this paper proposes a new policy which attempts to take into account the interests and visions of all Malawian citizens.
