Myrdal criticizes his fellow economists for their failure to understand and to begin solving the problems faced by our own social system as well as those of the underdeveloped countries. He encourages progress in social science through controversy that is sharpened not veiled, as well as transdisciplinary research focused on specific problems, not narrowed into specific disciplines.
