Abstract
The article gives an overview of major papers relating to city spaces. A theme running through all the papers mentioned, (because it is a part of the contemporary culture of cities) concerns the challenge global developments bring to city spaces and the problematic sense of place which emerges from that. The new political economy, represented by voices like Harvey (1989), Sassen (1991) and Castells (1996), is one of the more contemporary theoretic discourses sustaining this position.
