The purpose of this chapter is to present a method of project evaluation that is consistent with the principles of sustainable development. The projects with which this chapter is concerned are those that require significant amounts of natural resources in their production or have a significant impact on natural resources in their construction or operation. Most of the projects supported by the multilateral development banks are resource-intensive, and many of them have adverse environmental impacts.
