The rise of transnational corporations is singled out as the most important result of the neoliberal development policies being implemented by multilateral funding institutions such as the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund in Latin America. Neoliberalism is thus viewed as uninterested in creating a free market environment. The three stages of the development of the neoliberal model of economic development in the region are described.
