This selection proposes that there is a need for a socio-economic approach to addressing problems that have been traditionally addressed through the lens of neoclassical economic theory. The author suggests a shift in the traditional paradigm through 1) using multiple approaches to economic problems; 2) keeping the borders between the social sciences and economics open; ) placing more importance on substantive issues than methodological principles; 4) making allowances for the complexity of human behavior and culture.
