Abstract
Social economics in the post-Cold War era faces the challenge of evaluating past economic systems and the formulation of democratic strategies for effecting positive changes. A look at Russia and Eastern Europe provides a window into the issue of socialism’s alleged failure and capitalism’s supposed victory. It also shows the need for democratic institutions and processes in any society to bring about economic prosperity, liberty and social justice.
