The Goals of Evolutionary Archaeology
Author(s)Lyman, R. Lee; O’Brien, Michael J.
AbstractEvolutionary archaeology offers several advantages over other theories of human development and behavior. It separates materialist and essentialist ontologies, differentiates between configurational and immanent properties, incorporates the archaeological record’s temporal dimension, and utilizes external change mechanisms. The theory helps determine sources of variation, replication, invention and innovation, and analyzes the importance of human intent.
