The “Pithecanthropine Stage” of human evolution is very significant to anthropologist because it represents the evolutionary link between apes and modern humankind. However, talk of this evolutionary link has sparked much controversy among creationists, who openly denounce such theories, despite their factual basis. The author presents some of the major criticisms of opponents of evolution, such as the “Java Man” of Dr. Duane Gish, following with his own responses to clarify misunderstandings of the issue. He closes by criticizing creationist for misrepresenting the human fossil record, and reiterates the overwhelming evidence in favor of ancestors to homo sapiens, such as homo erectus.
