Is Social Anthropology Indissolubly Linked to the West, its Birthplace?
Author(s)Godelier, Maurice
AbstractSocial anthropology remains a highly relevant discipline among the social sciences and can offer a metacultural framework to study the distinguishing and universal elements in all cultures in an increasingly westernized, multicultural world. Anthropological research does not serve as a tool to serve the interests of the West, where it originated, and is not based on values and categories propounded by Western societies and social scientists. Dissociated from its connections with the West, anthropology is expanding into new areas of study, previously the preserve of other social sciences.
