Colonial and Postcolonial Discourse: Cultural Critique or Academic Colonialism?
Author(s)Mignolo, Walter D.
AbstractThe article examines Patricia Seed’s review essay “Colonial and Postcolonial Discourse,” Latin American Research Review, volume 26, number 3, 1991, which perceives colonialism and postcolonialism as a new literary historic theme. The article examines the political implications of colonialism and postcolonialism, examining the writings of the German philosopher Martin Heidegger and the Uruguayan critic Angel Rama. Colonial and postcolonial discourse needs to be researched alongside those who have first-hand knowledge of living in such cultures.
