Abstract
Anthropological research has responded to the challenges arising out of migration and other forms of population movements along with the movement of information, symbols, capital and commodities both globally and transnationally. The impact on individual and group identity that these influxes of people and traditions are having has received special attention. Brenneis has sought to conceptualize the problems which the global research is facing and has favored a rethinking of intellectual and political borders. Bourdieu is for a change in global sociology of knowledge. Other approaches are discussed.
