Abstract
Performance plays a crucial role in maintaining cultural traditions. The practice instills and reinforces traditions, presents these traditions to a receptive audience, and provides a method of enhancing self-discovery within the cultural framework. Performance may also offer a means of enacting social change through adaptation and modification.
