Abstract
Japanese firms in the United States currently receive considerable attention from academicians, business practitioners, and the popular press. We are learning that the meeting of Americans and Japanese in the work-place does not necessarily proceed smoothly, in large part because of cultural differences. This article considers the organizational culture that emerges in one specific binational setting. It examines the implications of organizational culture for the firm’s ability to achieve its goals and discusses solutions to cultural based problems that derive form an ethnographic perspective.
