Kinship is Dead; Long Live Kinship
Author(s)Faubion, James D.
AbstractKinship study, although not a normal science, is rigorous anthropological research. Reviews of various monographs show that the “problematization of belonging” is universal in contemporary Europe. Europeans are uncertain of their standing towards one another and the rest of the world. Collapse of colonialism has resulted in identity crises. The revival of anthropology of kinship indicates that anthropologists are persisting in their studies of the present, despite the unclarity and difficulties in its comprehension.
