Abstract
The story of women and war in the DRC is in many ways an old and often repeated one. Women are victims, resourceful survivors, and out of the public eye in both instances. Still, international organizations working in war-torn countries have become more cognizant of women’s issues, and at least at the level of policy many gains have been made for women. In the field, though, there is a constant struggle for resources. Outsiders confront social environments that do not necessarily welcome the prin- ciples that guide the outsiders’ work.
