Abstract
Medical anthropologists should adopt ethical standards based on a widespread consensus among practitioners. Standards should cover ethnomedical treatments and methods, consulting and teaching practices and sociopolitical evaluations. Practitioners should also provide reliable information concerning ethnomedicine, delineate the limits of their expertise, exercise caution in explaining treatment in terms of cultural beliefs and evaluate treatment efficacy. Medical anthropologists should also discuss adverse reactions and be able to justify treatment costs.
