AbstractPastoralism, or nomadic life, in Africa has multiple elements of social differentiation, yet no levels shared any characteristics of inegalitarian behavior. Stateless societies are not without wealth stratification, and these can produce social inequalities. Constraints, decisions, and currencies are often stratified by wealth.
