Abstract
An assessment is presented on the social and psychological impact of the 1990 German reunification, particularly in professional life. The article focuses on how intuitive assumptions concerning East Germans and West Germans are perceived, assimilated and reinforced, maintaining the semiotics of difference despite unification.
