AbstractThe role of applied anthropology in sustainable development in Costa Rica is discussed, with a focus on the culture sector of the Costa Rican National Strategy for Sustainable Development. Topics include the Costa Rican National Strategy for Sustainable Development; the evolution of the culture sector in relation to economic development during the recent past; constraints, restrictions and obstacles to the conservation and sustainable development of the sector; and implementation, monitoring and continuity.
